Our therapeutic approach involves counselling, hypnotherapy, and mindfulness.
At Selfigy, our counselling style is based on a transpersonal approach, which emphasises two aspects of a person:
Seeking answers is the first and most important step towards change. If you are committed to change, you can be helped to change. The only limitations are the ones within you.
As Jean-Paul Sartre said: We are our choices.
Hypnosis is often defined as a state of relaxation or meditation, in which the mind is uncritical yet focused. This state is not so different from other mental states that we experience, for example, when we are on auto-pilot while driving or engrossed in a film. Suggestibility is a feature of hypnosis, but contrary to popular thinking, you are always in control. Hypnosis has helped many people across a range of symptoms, such as:
Depending on your issue, we can teach you self-hypnosis to further extend the benefits of hypnotherapy.
Mindfulness has become a popular word in western culture, promoted by the growing influence of Buddhism in the West and also research that has shown the benefits of these practices in our daily life. Many therapists are now recommending the use of Mindfulness, or offering it as part of their therapeutic approach.
My own connection with Mindfulness has grown out of coming into contact with Buddhism in early adulthood and being impressed by the focus on daily living, in a simple and practical way. I have maintained a connection with Buddhism - with the movement and as a guide to how I live from moment to moment, the latter being influenced mainly by my understanding of Mindfulness.
More recently, I have been using this understanding of Mindfulness with clients, to the degree that it is of interest and/or helpful for the individual. I also run a Mindfulness and Meditation course as a means of passing on my experience to others who are interested.
Letting go of any habit is a challenge that is unique to each person. For this reason there are no quick fix options that will work for more than a small number of individuals. If you are ready to commit to the Habit Release Programme, at the end of the first session a protocol can be established and mutually agreed to.
Hypnotherapy is designed to overcome the psychological addiction. Hypnotherapy allows the habit of being a smoker/drinker to be replaced with the habit of being a non-smoker/drinker. Hypnotherapy will strengthen your desire and motivation to stop the habit.
Quit Smoking: Although hypnotherapy has proven to be an effective option to help someone quit, commitment to change remains an important factor. The number of sessions will also vary between individuals. With these factors in mind, there are two options that can be considered depending on the individual's preference. Either pay per session, or agree on a packaged programme. The quit smoking programme is as follows: a $400 one time up front payment. During the first session a maximum number of sessions is agreed upon that will help to establish clearer boundaries and goals.
Dependencies: Hypnotherapy is one option, working with a well established support framework is another option and combining these is also an option. If the second and/or third option have more appeal, go to a closer look for more details.
Generally, weight retention is associated with three areas: eating habits, exercise, and let's say… personal issues. Too often, diets focus on the first two and ignore the latter, which can lead to a self-defeating experience, if the personal issues are the primary cause of weight retention.
A weight management programme recognises all three areas and an individual programme is customised to suit your particular needs Weight management is for the long term and should be viewed as making changes that are going to be maintained as part of your lifestyle, rather than as an imposition on your life.
The standard number of sessions is six, and this can be modified to match individual needs. The Mindfulness training is focussed specifically on weight management, and relaxation/hypnotherapy, that helps reinforce the topic of the session. Home exercises are also part of the programme.
Like any other form of psychotherapy, the client's commitment to change is an important part of the outcome. The programme then becomes a process that facilitates the changes in such a way to align with the client. Sometimes this facilitation includes assisting the client to develop their commitment, because as stated above this work is often a lifestyle change, one that is both meaningful and sustainable.
This programme is for individual clients and based on hypnotic suggestions of inserting a virtual intra gastric balloon. There are six sessions in the programme, this is usually tailored to the client's needs and so the format and length may vary from the standard programme.
In the case of a real Intra Gastric Balloon, a special balloon is placed in the stomach, via the mouth, and filled with a sterile saline solution. This takes up a significant volume of the stomach and effectively reduces the amount that one can eat. The virtual intra gastric balloon suggestions help with establishing better control of over eating.
